Interviewing, Networking, and Hoping

Coming into week two I had my interview with the Borgen Project today. They are a non-profit organization who focuses on fighting global poverty. Their work focuses on using their large social media presence to educate people on poverty in not only our country but other countries. They use their platform to connect with congress and have worked with government officials on multiple Acts that have been approved and enacted on behalf of global poverty, hunger, and the importance of education for all children. My internship would consist of social media campaigns and learning how to work with government officials on these issues.

A couple of other opportunities have been presented to me through networking. The first opportunity is designing a website for a family friend. They own an excavating company and are looking for a website to spread the word about their business. The second opportunity is building a website for one of my dad’s colleagues. He is an auto mechanic looking to create a website for his company.

My next steps consist of waiting to hear back from the Borgen Project about if they would like me as part of there company. For the individual websites my next steps include meeting with the business owners and discussing their visions for their websites and making an outline for how this internship will be laid out. I am very excited for these next steps!

  1. What a busy and exciting week! It’s cool that you also have those two web design opportunities through networking – those are often the best ways to get hands-on experience.

For the excavating and mechanic sites, are they looking for any specific features like appointment booking or quote request forms? And for the Borgen Project, did they mention what their biggest social media goal is for this year?
